just read that vegas strip revenue down again this summer despite tourism being up. seems like every year the summer slump gets worse
people visiting but not gambling as much, spending more on shows and restaurants instead. some operators talking about "challenging summer conditions"
is vegas losing its gambling focus or just natural evolution? been planning trip there but wondering if the experience is still worth it

definitely summer has been rough. table limits higher to compensate for fewer players, comps way down, atmosphere just different
lots of tourists taking selfies and shopping but actual serious gambling way down. feels more like disneyland than casino sometimes
heat is brutal too which doesn't help. used to be tourists would stay inside gambling all day to escape temperature, now they just go to shows or pools

went to vegas in june and was shocked how expensive everything got. $300+ room rates, $20 cocktails, $50 buffets
when you're already spending fortune on accommodation and food, less money left for gambling. simple economics
The pricing strategy is backwards. Vegas used to make money by getting people to gamble, now they're trying to make money before people even start gambling. Once you've paid $300 for room and $100 for dinner, that's your budget gone + everyone knows the odds suck compared to online so why bother?

the generational thing is huge too. millennials and gen z see vegas differently than older generations
we go for instagram opportunities and experiences, not necessarily to gamble. gambling is just one small part of the trip
my parents generation went to vegas specifically to gamble. different mindset completely

@Mouche12 youre right about generational differences but think theres more to it. gambling options everywhere now so vegas lost its monopoly. can bet on sports from home, play casino games online, even lottery everywhere
vegas used to be special because you couldn't gamble anywhere else. now its just expensive version of something you can do anywhere

the heat factor is underrated. summer in vegas is genuinely dangerous now with climate change. trying to walk between casinos in 115 degree heat is miserable. would definitely discourage gambling tourism during summer months so expect winter vegas is completely different experience

who'd think global warming affecting vegas tourism this much huh? used to be year round destination now summers becoming unbearable
combine that with higher costs and online gambling options and revenue is down

been to vegas 3 times and each visit noticed more empty tables during week days. weekends still busy but monday-thursday feels like ghost town on gaming floor. casinos trying to compensate by jacking up minimums but that just drives away even more players. death spiral imo. oh also the quality of comps has gone way down. used to get decent room upgrades and free meals now its like pulling teeth to get anything

The comp issue is real. Vegas used to reward gambling with perks now they want you to pay for verything upfront. Why gamble for hours hoping for comps when you can just book restaurant directly and know what youre getting? Icentive structure completely backwards now

i still think covid changed everything permanently. people got used to staying home and realized they don't actually need vegas for entertainment. plus all the money saved from not traveling for 2 years made people more aware of how expensive vegas trips really are
hard to justify £2000 weekend when you can have same fun gambling online and save the money

covid definitely changed perspective on value. spent so much time finding entertainment at home that traveling to gamble seems unnecessary now. vegas is still fun but not essential the way it used to feel

vegas always went through cycles but this feels differrent. used to be economy drove tourism, now its fundamental shift in what people want. combine online gambling, expensive trips, climate change, and generational preferences and vegas has serious structural problems. they're trying to become entertainment destination but so is everywhere else. what makes vegas special anymore?

thats the key question. if vegas isn't special for gambling anymore and other cities have better entertainment and dining, whats the unique selling point? sounds like industry still figuring that out which explains the revenue struggles
maybe stick to online gambling and visit other cities for entertainment instead

honestly hard to recommend vegas unless you specifically want the vegas experience for nostalgia or social media. entertainment and food options better in other cities for less money. gambling definitely better online
vegas living on reputation more than actual value at this point. how long that lasts is anyones guess
