How much do you tip dealers when you win big?

Hit a nice run at craps this weekend and walked away up $2,200. Tipped $100 throughout the session but wasn't sure if that was enough given the size of the win. What's your tipping policy when you have a big session? Any dealers here who can weigh in on what's considered good/standard?

I usually tip 5% of winnings for a big win, which would be around $110 in your case, so you were right on the money! For smaller sessions, I'll do a minimum of $5/hr regardless of outcome
For reference, I typically play blackjack, craps, and the occasional slot hit. I'll always tip more if the dealer was particularly fun or helpful with strategy

Thanks! That seems reasonable. I was worried $100 might seem cheap on a $2,200 win, but 5% makes sense as a guideline

Dealers in most casinos make minimum wage or just above. They LIVE on those tips. I always base my tipping on time spent at the table rather than winnings
My standard is $5 per half hour at table games, win or lose. If I have a big win, I'll go up to $10-15 per half hour. On a huge jackpot (say $10k+), I'd probably tip 2-3% of the total
Remember: happy dealers make for happy players. Being known as a good tipper can get you better service, friendlier dealers, and sometimes even discreet strategy advice

As former dealer Ican say your $100 on a $2,200 win is actually quite generous - better than most players. We generally hoped for 1-2% of a big win, so you're well above average. What dealers actually remember isn't the percentage but the consistency. Someone who tips a dollar every few hands regardless of outcome is more appreciated than someone who only tips after a massive win. The worst are players who make a big show about tipping when they're winning but then blame dealers and stop tipping completely when they start losing. Dealers understand the math of the games - we know you'll lose in the long run. We appreciate those who acknowledge our service regardless of their luck

bloody hell 5% of winnings? nah this american tipping thing is proper out of control mate. in uk we dont tip casino dealers at all. they get paid properly why should we bother if already losing money to house edge??

i get you tbh. went to vegas a couple years back and it felt like you had to tip literally everyone… dealers, pit boss, cocktail waitress, even the lad who just pointed me to the loo. bit alien for us lot. back home in newcastle casino i only tip if the dealer’s been proper sound and i’m actually up decent. otherwise nah

moved to states for years already and tipping here is everywhere not just casinos. what gets me is dealers literally make like $3/hr base and need tips just to survive its fucked system. back in uk at least people get minimum wage so tipping is actually optional. here if you dont tip youre basically stealing from the dealer cause casinos pay them nothing

Not exactly @Scott1baird, you’re thinking of waitstaff wages. Casino dealers in the US earn substantially more than $3 an hour. According to the BLS dealers average around $18–25 per hour (base pay) depending on location. In Las Vegas, base pay is typically around $20/hr, with tips that can add another $15–30/hr on good shifts. Of course it’s still a tip-dependent income model, but it’s not the same as restaurant servers who can legally be paid as low as $2.13/hr under the federal tipped minimum wage.

fair enough got my wires crossed there. still think system is broken though if tips are expected on top of house edge

bill_collins is right about wages. dealers do make proper hourly but tips still represent significant portion of total income. cultural difference here is real though. in us tipping dealers is just expected part of playing live games. not saying systems perfect but thats how it works. in practice if you play at us tables and dont tip you can get worse service as they are motivated to rush you out and give preference to tippers

thats exactly the problem mate casinos make billions in profit but still expect customers to top up wages. whole systems designed to squeeze money from everyone. if dealers in america organized properly and demanded fair compensation instead of relying on customer generosity maybe things would change

this is making me realize how different cultures are about tipping my bf went to atlantic city last year and came back complaining about having to tip everyone said it added like 20% to his gambling losses. seems unfair that you have another factor when calculating expected loss but personaly im ok with this. good service must be rewarded but not forced to do so of course

bruh i barely have money to gamble why would i tip on top of that 💀
like if im up big sure ill throw dealer some but most times im just trying not to go broke dealers making more than me anyway lmao

Made little comparison:
USA dealers: $18-25/hr base depending on location plus tips typically add $15-30/hr. total compensation around $35-50/hr at decent casino
Uk dealers: £24k-30k annually base salary (roughly £12-15/hr) with tips being minor bonus not that significant income
So US model puts more earnings potential through tips while UK model has stable predictable base. While both end up similar total compensation the distribution is very different. US essentially increases your cost to play since its expected while in UK its really more optional

i tip about 1-2% of winnings at craps and blackjack figure if im playing $25 hands and win $500 throwing dealer $10 isnt gonna kill me
funny thing is online live dealer games have tip buttons now too never used those though feels weird tipping someone on video screen

wait online casinos have tipping now thats mad altogether. none of us tip at online casinos but land based is different story when youre face to face with someone dealing cards feels different than clicking buttons on screen

yeah ive seen those on evolution gaming tables always wondered if dealers actually get that money or if casino takes cut. never tipped online it seems pointless when theyre dealing to hundreds of players at once through camera

what a shift from offline to online lol. completely different situations in my view so i tip at land based casinos but never online the personal connection just isnt there
