How is RTP counted in gambling games

From what I've gathered, the only RTP numbers you can get from casinos are from state audits, and those only give you the overall RTP, not for each game. In the past, casinos had to physically open machines and replace a chip to change the RTP. Now, with newer machines, they can do it from their computer systems linked to every machine. They're always adjusting payouts to attract more players. Casinos need to meet state minimum requirements for overall RTP, which can be as low as 80% in some places. Luckily, competition from other casinos usually keeps rates between 88% and 96%.
 
RTP stands for Return to Player, and it's calculated like this: (Total Payouts / Total Bets) * 100%.

Here's what those terms mean:

  • Total Payouts: This is the total amount of money paid out as winnings on a specific slot game over a long time.
  • Total Bets: This is the total amount of money that people have bet on the slot game over the same period.
