faker is the goat right but let's actually have the argument

im more curios more if faker is actually the best player right now or is the goat argument basically all legacy at this point
honest answer is probably not top 3 at his position this season. the goat case is sustained longevity and peak performance over 13 years, it doesn't require him to be the best player at 29. which is how it works in every sport. nobody asks if jordan was the best player in the nba in 2003 when evaluating whether he's the goat. those are different questions

yeah i think the honest answer is there isn't one because the criteria genuinely give different results. faker for cultural reach and longevity. zywoo for right now. flash for pure win rate in the hardest version of whatever he was in
maybe that's unsatisfying but it's more honest than pretending one metric covers everything!

correct framing. most of these arguments are people using different metrics and talking past each other. the underlying question is underspecified - best at peak, best sustained, best right now, most culturally significant, widest game diversity. each one gives a legitimately different answer

went and looked up some flash stuff after this talks. six starleague titles and nearly 80% win rate in the hardest game anyone in this thread has mentioned. had zero idea. still think faker wins the overall argument just because of the scale of league and how many people watched him do it for 13 years but i came in here saying it wasn't a debate and i was clearly wrong about that

glad this ended without someone getting told to touch grass. usually faker vs anyone collapses into that by page two. flash gets written off constantly because the scene was korean and the game is old. appreciate that people here actually engaged with it instead of just dismissing it

anyway my position stands - faker for the goat title based on sustained dominance and global performance in the biggest esport. but flash belongs in the same sentence and i didn't take that seriously enough coming in. going to actually watch some footage.
zywoo as best active player right now is hard to argue against. s1mple at absolute peak being in the conversation with faker feels right. 21 tournament mvps says everything about how dominant he was individually and how long it took the team to match dat
