yo everyone, something really big in gaming! ea's getting sued over fifa/fc 24 ultimate team packs - apparently they're being called illegal gambling schemes 🎮 this could be huge for gaming industry... anyone here spent money on fut packs? what's your take - are they gambling or just game mechanics?

Let me break this down from game dev perspective (worked in industry 5 years). These packs are designed using same psychology as slots. Variable reward ratios, flashy animations, artificial scarcity - it's all gambling mechanics dressed up as "gaming". The lawsuit documents actually show EA's internal research on player spending patterns. They specifically time promos and pack odds to maximize FOMO and spending. Trust me, nothing about these systems is random or "just for fun".

@raw.p damn bro, spilling industry tea ☕

Remember when EA called loot boxes "surprise mechanics"? Still can't believe they said that with straight face 😂

working retail, see kids buying fifa points all the time. parents have no idea what they're funding

The lawsuit mentions EA's patented "dynamic difficulty" too. Making matches harder to push pack sales.

Belgium and Netherlands already banned this stuff. Rest of Europe might follow.

Someone posted their pack opening stats on reddit - 3000 packs, no icons or toty cards 😬
