The compensation structure @wagerwinner described is unfortunately becoming standard practice for operators facing financial pressure. Offering "bonus balance" instead of cash refunds keeps the money on their books while making it statistically unlikely players will ever cash out.
Aany wagering on compensation for technical failures is particularly egregious - this should be treated as an error correction, not a promotional offer. Any reputable operator would provide direct account credit.
This is exactly why regulatory oversight matters. Under UKGC rules, technical failures resulting in player losses must be compensated with real money, not bonus credits. Once operators move to less regulated jurisdictions, these consumer protections disappear.
