this one actually matters to me so ill post it even though nobody will care. so recently every uk licensed site has to offer a gross deposit limit to everyone, and put it back if they'd quietly taken it away. and only that kind can be called a deposit limit now
thats the bit thats been doing my head in for two years. one site called it a deposit limit and it was actually net of withdrawals so it never triggered. another called the same thing a spend limit. i thought i was being thick

more tools. always more tools. nobody asked for this. the people who want a limit already set one and the people who don't wont, and meanwhile the tax went to forty percent and my odds are worse and that's the actual change to my life this year

i asked for it

before anything. its the total you pay in over the period, full stop
say your limit is 200 a month. you deposit 200, you win, you withdraw 500. under a gross limit you've used your whole allowance and you cant deposit again until it resets. under a net limit that withdrawal wipes out your deposits and you're back to zero used, so you can put another 200 in. and another
that's how someone with a 200 quid limit puts 900 through in a month and never sees a warning. @nataly.k isn't being thick, that mechanism is genuinely invisible unless someone shows you

hell thats literally what happened to me last winter and i never understood why the limit didn't stop me...i had one set. i remember setting it. and i still did four hundred in a weekend and the site never said a word

well not quite, net limits are a legitimate tool for some people, the problem was calling both of them the same thing
if you're a break even player a net limit is what you actually want. the failure was that nobody could tell which one they'd been given and the word on the button was identical
thats what it supposed to fix. only gross gets called a deposit limit. everything else has to be named something else

took em how long to work out that two different things should have two different names

Longer than it should have, and the delay is part of the story.

Phase one landed in October 2025. Phase two was due on 30 June this year and operators asked for more time on the technical work, so the Commission pushed it to tomorrow. Three extra months to rename a field and change which limit is the default.
I'm not saying that's dishonest. Payment systems are genuinely awkward. But it's worth holding next to how quickly the same industry implemented the duty rise in April.
