face down double down is kinda pointless or am i missing something??

From a marketing point of view this is a textbook engagement feature. I read both announcements and neither one says a word about value for the player, it's all "suspense" and "experience". The only real change was Pragmatic's Split After Split, and that got bundled into the same release.

Not saying it's harmful. It just tells you who it was built for.

vibe setting is a good way to put it. had a regular who made me tuck every double, even on games where nobody else did. won a big one on a tucked 11 once and for him that was proof forever. people believe what happened to them, not what the math says
 
People are mixing three different products up:
  • ICONIC21 Face Down Double Down: rolled out in early October on selected tables (7-Seat and Private Blackjack). Same rules, same maths, only the timing of the reveal changes.
  • Pragmatic Prive Lounge: Face Down Double Down plus Split After Split, announced in August. RTP quoted at 99.51%. The resplit is what moves that number.
  • Evolution Free Bet Blackjack: 98.45% RTP. Dealer 22 is a push, which is how they pay for the free doubles and splits (Lilah's point).
If you're in Texas like @BJill, sweeps is about the only legal ish way to play online anyway, so McLuck is probably where most of us will see it first.

Yes. Split 8s, catch another 8 on one of the hands, and you can split that one again. Land-based tables have allowed it forever. Plenty of the live tables I've played don't, which is why Pragmatic adding it is the actual upgrade, not the face down part.
