read this article about ai being used by casinos to target people with gambling problems. apparently they can analyze your betting patterns and social media to figure out if you're vulnerable then specifically target you with ads and bonuses
seems proper dystopian that technology meant to help people is being used to exploit them instead. where's the regulation on this stuff?
anyone else worried about how much these sites know about us?

This is a genuine concern that deserves serious attention. The gambling industry's adoption of AI for player targeting has significantly outpaced regulatory oversight. The fundamental issue is that AI can identify vulnerable individuals with unprecedented accuracy, but current regulations still rely on self-reporting and basic behavioral flags that are easily circumvented by sophisticated targeting systems.

there is something in that. no wonder i keep getting bonus offers right after i have bad days at work or when my social media shows im stressed. always wondered how they knew exactly when to send those "special offers"
feels like we're being hunted

The timing of their marketing is too perfect to be luck. Got divorced last year and suddenly started getting way more aggressive bonus emails and push notifications. Coincidence i think not
Really makes you think about deleting social media accounts or better quit gambling

lol ai supposed be helping people avoid gambling problems not creating them!! this tech could easily identify when someone needs help and suggest breaks or limits instead of more bonuses
but theres no money in it so... i suppose regulatory authorities need to step up big time here, they surely will right...right?

100% imagine if dating apps used AI to target people going through breakups with ads for hookup sites. everyone would be outraged.but somehow its ok when gambling sites do the same thing to people with addiction problems

this is why i dont link any social media to gambling accounts and use different email addresses for everything
not paranoid just dont trust these companies to not abuse whatever data they can get their hands on
course they're gonna use AI to milk every penny out of vulnerable people if nobodys gonna stop them

💯
i guess you looked black mirror to much ppl
Look mate the legal framework around AI in gambling is virtually non-existent, which creates a perfect storm for exploitation.
Current regulations focus on traditional responsible gambling measures - deposit limits, time outs, self-exclusion - but these become meaningless when AI can predict exactly how to circumvent them or manipulate players into not using them.
The real issue is that AI operates in black boxes. Operators can claim they're using AI for "personalized experiences" while actually deploying predatory targeting systems. Without algorithmic transparency requirements, regulators can't even audit what these systems are doing.

We need specific legislation requiring:
  • Algorithmic audits for gambling AI systems
  • Mandatory disclosure of AI targeting criteria
  • Prohibition on using vulnerability indicators for marketing
  • Required AI-powered intervention when problem gambling indicators are detected
Until then, players are essentially guinea pigs in unregulated psychological experiments designed to maximize extraction of their money.

@AlexXxelA the black box thing is spot on... theres no way to know what these algorithms are actually doing
could be analyzing voice patterns from customer service calls tracking how often you check your bank balance timing there offers based on when you get paid monitoring your social media posts for signs of stress
all of this is probably legal under current terms and conditions that nobody reads

lol and people wonder why suicide rates go up and these companies literally hunting depressed people with AI and nobody cares cos gambling makes governments money too
