just read premiier league clubs agreed to ban gambling sponsors from front of shirts starting 2026. about bloody time if you ask me. proper mental how normalized it became seeing bet365 and paddy power plastered all over united and city kits
been watching football since i was little and remember when shirt sponsors were proper companies - sharp electronics, carlsberg, samsung. now its all betting sites targeting young lads who cant afford to lose their wage
 
Calculated revenue impact approximately £60M annually across all PL clubs. Lower-tier clubs disproportionately affected as they rely more heavily on gambling sponsorship percentages.
 
really glad about this. watching matches with family and constantly explaining why "bet now" ads are everywhere gets exhausting

@Patrick777 exactly mate. easy for big clubs like city and united but what about burnley or brighton? they need every penny they can get

easy to say when its not your favorite lower league club going bankrupt without sponsorship money
 
wondering if american leagues will follow suit. sports betting ads absolutely everywhere during NBA and NFL games now
 
bottom line is kids shouldn't be exposed to "bet now" messages during family time. revenue loss sucks but protecting children more important
 
virtue signaling. gambling still heavily promoted just slightly less visible 😑
